COOL OFF WITH A HOMEMADE COFFEE DRINK

Summer and frozen drinks go hand in hand, but paying for those treats can add up quickly. Making your own frozen drinks at home is an easy and fun way to cool off while saving some cold, hard cash. So forget that trendy shop on the corner, and grab your blender! Blended coffee is a definite summertime treat. But it’s just as easy to make your own at home. The Pioneer Woman has a fantastic recipe that you can easily customize to your taste. Her recipe makes six servings, so you’ll want to adjust it depending on how many you’re serving. Planning ahead is key, since the most important ingredient is chilled, espresso or very strong brewed coffee. The stronger the coffee, the better, since you’ll be “watering it down” with lots of ice. The basic recipe includes milk, vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk or another sweetener like sugar or honey if you prefer. HAVE A WILD TIME AT THE ZOO THIS SUMMER!

The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park is a fantastic place to hang out during the day. But the evenings are when it shows its wilder side! Whenever you attend, you’re sure to have a great time. On the first Friday of every month, make a trip to the Zoo for the First Friday Late Night. From 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., you can enjoy everything you love about the Zoo and then some. Admission is discounted for these special evenings as well. First Fridays aren’t the only nights where you can check out the Zoo after dark. Wines in the Wild and Zoo Brew are annual events that let you have a great time while supporting the Zoo’s fundraising efforts. CELEBRATE THE 4TH OF JULY AT THE LANDING

Idaho Falls is lucky to have one of the most spectacular 4 th of July celebrations around! The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration has been named one of the best firework shows in America, and this year, it’s better than ever! Watch as over 15,300 pounds of fireworks lights up the sky over the Snake River for a 31-minute show that will blow you away! But the celebration starts long before the fireworks. Beginning at noon, the Mountain View Hospital Riverfest will provide entertainment to help you get in the spirit of the holiday. Listen to seven bands throughout the day. Watch demonstrations by ATVs and Jeeps or learn to horseback ride. You can even jump on a helicopter ride if you’re brave enough! Riverfest takes place from noon to 10:00 p.m. on the 4 th . Summer brings lots of opportunities for entertaining, but why spend time in the kitchen? There are so many fantastic ways to bring a little extra to your summer classics. You definitely won’t be bored with these tips for livening up your picnic staples! Some simple swaps can change the flavor of tried-and-true dishes. Using different seasonings like curry powder or chili powder spices things up in mayonnaise-based salads. Add some chopped, pickled jalapenos to your deviled eggs or potato salad for extra kick. Crumbled blue cheese and bottled buffalo sauce turns plain chicken salad into something addictive. You can even toss berries into your tuna salad or coleslaw for a unique dish. A good way to experiment with different flavors is to take a stroll down the condiment aisle. Swap in wasabi or avocado mayo. Try German or French mustard instead of the plain yellow. SUMMER ON THE SNAKE RIVER

The Greenbelt on the Snake River is a local treasure. It’s a great place to spend the afternoon or evening. The trail’s five miles of beautiful scenery crosses the river. It also takes you past the 600-foot waterfall that is the town’s namesake. The trail features different memorials, and you can make stops at the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho or the McClure Flower Garden. Both the northern and southern parts of the park feature playground areas for kids. You can even fish or play disc golf within the park. Movies in the Park is one of Idaho Falls’ favorite summer traditions, and the line-up this year is better than ever! Every 2 nd and 4 th Friday of June, July, and August, come down to Freeman Park to enjoy these free outdoor movies. The schedule is as follows: June 8th - Peter Rabbit (PG) June 22nd - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (PG-13) July 13th - Coco (PG) July 27th - E.T. (PG) August 10th - Cars 3(PG) August 24th - Star Wars:  The Last Jedi (PG-13) The movies will be shown in Freeman Park next to the Bandshell, beginning at sunset.
